Fanboy Expo – Las Vegas

November 22, 2022

We went to Fanboy Expo in Las Vegas held at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in April of this year specifically to see four celebrities.  I wanted to add two more signatures to my Vader hockey jersey (Darkside jersey by GeekyJerseys.com), and to get a photo with a couple of stars from my childhood.  We only attended one day of Fanboy Expo and spent the rest of our weekend just enjoying Las Vegas.

The convention itself was quite small, and we only needed half a day to see and do everything we wanted.  I checked the photo op schedule for my photo with Lee Majors and Lindsey Wagner, then we went into the hall where the vendors and autographs were taking place.  I added the signatures of Barry Lowin (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett), and Dorian Kingi (The Book of Boba Fett) to my Darkside GeekyJerseys hockey jersey.  We spent a little time talking to Dorian, mostly because I asked how to properly pronounce his last name.

After getting the autographs, we headed to the panel room and caught the last half of The Office panel featuring Kate Flannery and Oscar Nunez.  The Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett panel with Barry Lowin and Dorian Kingi was the following panel, which is what we were really waiting for.  Dorian mentioned that he got the role as Cad Bane in the Book of Boba Fett, because of someone he had worked with previously suggesting him to the production team.  He “met” with them over zoom just talking about prosthetic work, but they never really auditioned him to see if he could even act. They were just focused on finding someone with a specific body type who could work under heavy makeup and prosthetics.

My photo op with Lee Majors and Lindsey Wagner was immediately following the Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett panel so I made a beeline out of the room to get to my photo op.  Coincidentally, Lindsey Wagner is Dorian Kingi’s mom, and their autograph booths were next to each other.  Apparently, she wasn’t happy with the boots Dorian was wearing and gave him grief over his wearing them to the convention.  She felt he should have worn nicer looking shoes to meet with fans.  I think they looked comfortable, and you don’t see them when he’s behind the table at his booth.   I had to wait just a few minutes to get the printed photograph, and we left the convention once I had the printed photograph in hand.
